The famous Call of Duty game joins Xbox Game Pass: Phil Spencer talks about Microsoft’s support for physical disks

The famous Call of Duty game joins Xbox Game Pass

Good news for fans of the Call of Duty video game series: according to Phil Spencer, head of Microsoft Gaming, all games created by recently acquired companies are already available on Xbox Game Pass from day one. Although Activision’s acquisition of Blizzard was completed in October 2023, their games have not yet been included in the subscription. Nevertheless, the long-awaited Diablo 4 will soon appear on Xbox Game Pass, becoming the first game from Activision Blizzard on this platform.

Phil Spencer quote

We support physical media, but we are responsive to our customers’ needs as they demand. Our portfolio includes games on both physical and digital media, and we always consider what our customers choose. I believe that our job at Xbox is to meet the needs of the majority of our customers. Nowadays, most of them choose to play games in digital format.

However, we do not base our strategy on the transition to digital technologies. Abandoning physical media is not a strategic priority for us.

Spencer says.

It is important to note that Microsoft is not abandoning physical disks, but is closely considering the demand of players for digital versions. Phil Spencer emphasized that the company’s strategy does not depend on the transition to the digital format, and the abandonment of physical media is not a strategic objective for Xbox. Gamers can expect more exciting games and convenient ways to get them thanks to Xbox Game Pass and support for physical disks from Microsoft.

Even after the successful completion of the acquisition of Activision Blizzard by Microsoft in October 2023, the company’s games have not yet been included in the Xbox Game Pass subscription service. Explaining the delay, Phil Spencer pointed to the need for significant work to integrate teams and technologies. He noted that this process was more difficult than the integration of ZeniMax Media, which Microsoft acquired in March 2021, as the merger process was more detailed and clear throughout, Windows Central reports.
